It’s not energy itself, but a form of energy storage!
People often think battery = electric energy, so therefore battery should be a form of energy. Which, surprise surprise, is not the case.

Energy comes in many different forms, which include radiation, chemical, gravitational potential, electrical potential, and electricity.
Battery, however, is a form of energy storage, which means that it captures the energy produced at one time, and can be used later in time.

Common examples of energy storage are hydroelectric dams, which store gravitational potential energy in a reservoir. Or even food, which is a form of energy stored in chemical form. In the case of a rechargeable battery, it stores chemical energy that is ready to be converted to electric energy that powers our phone at any time.
