Solid-state battery refers to those batteries that has solid electrolyte instead of liquids electrolyte which allow lithium-ion to travel freely within.
Although this concept is not something new as we already have battery with solid electrolyte. But thanks to the discovery of new families of solid electrolyte with high ionic conductivity that is similar to liquid electrolyte.
Why are solid-state batteries the future of battery and what are their advantages?
Well, one of the biggest advantages they have is that solid electrolyte are non-flammable when heated.
Another advantage they have is that they allow batteries to be lighter, denser, and battery shelf-life to be innovated. These alongside with thermal and safety management allow batteries with high power-to-weight ratio to be an ideal use for electric vehicles.
